7020 tons of CO2 is the average annual emission of a superyacht for approx. 10 guests and 20 crew members (Grégory Salle: “Superyachts - luxe, calme et écocide”, Édition Amsterdam, 2021). This corresponds to the ecological footprint of 1,400 people worldwide. The immersive spatial installation deals with the phenomenon of private mega-yachts and the staging of an incomparably lavish lifestyle against the backdrop of intoxicatingly beautiful landscapes. The basis of this installation are photographs from an image search on social media. 25 screenshots, printed on poster paper and then cut up vertically, hang in rows one behind the other and fill the entire gallery space. The yachts are cut from the hanging strips and spread out on the floor so that only the backgrounds of the images remain, forming a cave-like vaulted space interspersed with clearings. Freed of their ballast, the threatened paradises come back to life. They are now the center of attention and invite us to walk between them and enjoy the regained liberty and space to breathe.
